Expanded explanation

Corporate election does not mean that choosing of individuals does not have a place or meaning in scripture. It means that the chosen group and its destiny are established by God, while individuals participate in that group by responding to the gospel and being found in Christ. The group is elect because of God's gracious purpose, not because its members earned a superior status.

This framework is especially important when reading passages that speak of being chosen in Christ or predestined for adoption. The interpretive question is whether the passage describes God's plan for those in Christ or God's prior selection of which individuals would be placed in Christ.
